The footage in ‘Window’ is an amalgamation of two separate bodies of work. ‘Confession’ (2011) is a series touching on Foucault’s view on western society’s obsession with confession (revealing) and it’s relation to power and freedom. ‘ Refuse’ (2014) is experimentation with black bags and containment (silence), once again touching on Foucault , focusing on his repression theories. ‘Window’ is somewhere in between opening and closing.
Duration 5:16 min.
Exploring Foucault’s ‘discipline and punish’ and ‘repressive hypothesis’. I’ve always been fascinated by the nature of the refuse bags; how thin the film is and how it bends and breaks under the weight of what we discard and contain.
